A climb that even made Miguel Indurain suffer, the Mirador del Fito is definitely a challenging ride for cyclists though if you’re in reasonable form the views will surely get you up and over the worst of it (9% average for the 5km leading up to the pass, maximums of 12%). It’s a bit easier from the inland side (the route shown below) and you get the reward of fantastic coastal vies all the way down the final descent.
With the exception of the 14km on the N634 it is all on country roads and except for tourist traffic to the Mirador itself the roads are usually quite quiet.
The route is also wonderful by car or motorbike combining mountains and the coast with plenty of stopping places along the way
To stay in the area why not try COL2 La Quintana or LAS2 El Rincon del Pescador or a charming hotel set in a historic Palacio de Indianos – all of which are right on the route. The hotel features in several of our north Spain tours for example NC4 Mar y Montaña or NC8 Discover Asturias
