Lastres
This near-vertical village, well preserved perhaps due to the lack of suitable land for development, is a labyrinth of steep winding stone cobbled lanes, leading up to the church of San Roque which commands one of the finest views in Northern Spain.
Back down at sea level there is the still active fishing port and a sporting marina as well as the nice little town beach. Within a short drive there are also the beaches of Isla and La Griega, the latter of which has fossilised dinosaur footprints in the rocks at the far end, hence the siting of the recently opened Asturian dinosaur museum set up on the hill on the way from Lastres.
There are no end of possibilities for walkers, be it coastal routes leading from the top of the village or mountain trekking in the Sierra del Sueve (at over 1000m, from here one can enjoy the finest views of the Picos and, on a clear day, as far as Santander!) or in the Picos de Europa themselves, just beyond.
In the village there is a good selection of bars and restaurants and boat trips can be arranged for fishing or just sightseeing in the summer months.
Centrally placed in Asturias this is a good base for excursions with Oviedo, Gijon and Aviles, the mountains and the eastern coast all within easy reach - but you might just be happy to stay in Lastres!

Reviews of this property

"Charming house in centre of old Lastres
We stayed for a week at El Rincon del Pescador and absolutely loved it. The house is charming and right in the heart of old Llstres. There is plenty of room for a family of four and the house is very well kitted out with everything you could need for your stay. The area is great for both beaches and more adventurous pursuits like kayaking, canyoning etc. if that's your thing. We would love to come back one day!" (Client 2019)
"We enjoyed the location of our property with sandy beaches very close by & the Picos mountains also a short drive away", (Client 2016)
"Definitely a hidden gem of Spain
We spent time on the beaches and in the local towns. Fantastic food, good value for money", (Client 2016)
