Beaches of the Dinosaur Coast

Beaches of the Dinosaur CoastAt the heart of Asturias’ Dinosaur coast, so named for the presence of fossilized dinosaur footprints in the rocks beside the golden sandy beaches, Playa de Isla is a real gem. In reality this is a string of beaches from La Isla itself, so named for the small island just offshore which is connected to the beach at low tide, to Playa Barrigon, literally ‘Big-belly beach’. The beaches are quite unspoiled with just a small village behind with the essential services and the Sierra del Sueve (1161m) providing a spectacular backdrop. If you like this beach or are especialy interested in the dinosaurs there are plenty of others nearby with footprints starting with Playa la Griega just to the west.
