La Ruta del Cares

One of Spain's most famous mountain routes, and rightly so, the Ruta del Cares follows the Rio Cares on its course from Poncebos (the most popular start point) to Cain through spectacular mountain scenery. As the path follows a trail carved out initially for the canalisation of the waters it is generally quite flat and there's no getting lost! The route covers 12km and in summer it can be busy - there are no fountains so do take water, hat and suncream.
