Whether you prefer the beach or the mountains, the quiet tranquillity of the villages or the lively pace of the city, it surely won’t be far away. River swimming is another activity to enjoy along the Saja river, with a perfect spot just a short walk away. And with a couple of good restaurants, also within walking distance, you can always end the day with some great food and a glass of wine.
Accommodation Description
The property can be accessed through a small garden gate at the back or through an imposing iron gate framed by natural stone pillars, this one being shared with the neighbouring house which is only very rarely occupied. Either way, both paths lead to the main entrance of the house. From a small south-facing terrace, the main door opens into an open plan living area with a well equipped kitchen to the left, a bathroom and two bedrooms at the far end, and a staircase leading to both the first floor and the basement to the right.
Upstairs, a hall leads to four spacious bedrooms of which two have sloped ceilings and the other two share a lovely balcony. A bathroom is also located on this floor. Lovely views from all rooms.
The basement is divided into a multipurpose room with table tennis, darts and dining equipment, and a garage that allows for storing bicycles, surf boards or other bulky items that you might want to bring over, as Cantabria has a lot to offer for outdoor recreation.
A fully enclosed garden surrounds the property on two sides, with barbecue, pergola, garden furniture and a huge palm tree. Lots of parking options around the house.

Church in Santibañez
Santibañez (Cabezón de la Sal)
The coast is only twenty minutes, so this is a good location for those wishing to combine beach days with rural living; it is also well located for exploring Cantabria to the East and West, and for driving up in to the Picos de Europa.
The Cabuérniga Valley heading inland from the village, is dotted with delightful stone-built villages and has a suprising variety of restaurants. Ruente has four alone, and further into the valley we recommend La Central in Barcenillas where they specialise in wood-oven roasts, Casa Lucas in Correpoco or El Puente in the pretty village of Carmona.
Up in the hills nearby, the tiny village of Bustablado (population approximately 60 people) lays on a wonderful fiesta in August, when a delicious chickpea stew is handed out to all comers - take your plates!
Cabezón de la Sal is the nearest town for shopping and all amenities. It holds a farmers' market every Saturday in the morning until lunchtime.
On the second Sunday of August, Cabezón de la Sal hosts the Día de Cantabria - the biggest local festival, with a display of local music, dancing and costumes as well as a parade and a large market throughout the day. It is an excellent way to experience Cantabrian culture.
