Casa Ibio 1, Cantabria and AsturiasHerrera de Ibio | Ref: IBI1 | Bedrooms: 4 | Sleeps: 8
Totally renovated stone house in quaint village, ideal for relaxing
On three floors with a total of four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a large living and dining room, this charming property has all the typical features you would expect to find in a traditional Cantabrian house: a small front courtyard, a balcony along the front, all in a fine mixture of stone and oak, as well as a gallery-window attached to the first floor. Furnishings are rustic and modern in style including three large sofas in the living room. All first floor bedrooms have access to either the balcony or the gallery.
Just a few metres from the front courtyard, with a separate entrance across the street, is a quaint covered patio and a lawned garden with table, chairs and barbecue, ideal for outdoor meals, sunbathing and relaxing. There is also enough space to park a car within the grounds.
The market-town of Cabezón de la Sal is just nearby, the coastal motorway just beyond that and Comillas and the sea a short drive away, so there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to holiday activities. Whether you prefer the beach or the mountains, the quiet tranquillity of the villages or the lively pace of the city, it surely won’t be far away. And with a trendy and very popular gastrobar just around the corner you can always end the day with some great food and a glass of wine.
NB. There is a small apartment in the same building, totally separate with its own entrance and garden, which is occupied by the owners' family.
Accommodation DescriptionFrom a small gated courtyard, the front door opens into the living and dining room, with the kitchen and downstairs bathroom at the far end, and a wooden staircase to the right. A large open fireplace is located to the left. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern conveniences. The living room has three sofas and a large dining table with seating capacity for 6 people. Plenty of windows allow for abundance of natural light and lovely rural views.
The staircase leads up to the first floor where three bedrooms are found, two with double beds and one with a single bed. All bedrooms have access to either a balcony or a wooden gallery. There is also a bathroom to be shared between the bedrooms. Wooden windows in all rooms with views of the village and surrounding countryside.
Up another flight of stairs, the top floor is one big open space being used as a bedroom, with open beams and four single beds.
Across the street, there is a fully enclosed patio and barbecue area with direct access to a garden with table and chairs.
NB. The house can sleep up to a maximum of 10 people for an extra charge (please consult).

Herrera de Ibio
The coast is less than half an hour away, so this is a good location for those wishing to combine beach days with rural living; it is also well located for exploring Cantabria to the East and West, and for driving up in to the Picos de Europa.
The Cabuérniga Valley heading inland from the village, is dotted with delightful stone-built villages and has a suprising variety of restaurants. Ruente has four alone, and further into the valley we recommend La Central in Barcenillas where they specialise in wood-oven roasts, Casa Lucas in Correpoco or El Puente in the pretty village of Carmona.
Cabezón de la Sal is the nearest town for shopping and all amenities. It holds a farmers' market every Saturday in the morning until lunchtime.
On the second Sunday of August, Cabezón de la Sal hosts the Día de Cantabria - the biggest local festival, with a display of local music, dancing and costumes as well as a parade and a large market throughout the day. It is an excellent way to experience Cantabrian culture.
