Villaviciosa | Ref: AST4 | Bedrooms: 5 | Sleeps: 10

Stylish and spacious, modern house in cider country near fantastic beach

Very recently built, this large, handsome, detached, stone house, stands in its own grounds above the coastal road between Villaviciosa and Colunga. It is backed by woods and fields which lead down to the Arroyo de Onon and the beautiful estuary of the Ria de Villaviciosa beyond.

Its light, spacious interior is stylishly and attractively decorated, furnished and equipped. With five bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, and two sitting rooms, it is very well designed and comfortable, especially for larger groups or for those who like plenty of their own space.

Well and practically equipped, particularly in the kitchen and the utility room, it is an easy place to come home to to unwind after a busy day on the beach or in the mountains.

Just a very short drive into the interesting old town of Villaviciosa, capital of cider country, with a covered and a weekly market, you can also be on the stunning sandy beach of Rodiles within ten minutes and many more a little bit further. The fascinating cities of Gijon, Oviedo and Aviles are all easy to get to and days out in the Picos mountains perfectly feasible.

Villaviciosa

The tiny hamlet of Onon, in apple growing country, to the east of Villaviciosa, is by the Arroyo de Onon, one of the streams that flows into the lovely Ria de Villaviciosa.

There are no facilities here, except the bread van who visits daily, but Villaviciosa, the capital of cider making country, is a short drive at four kilometres. With a lively centre built around the old quarter, it has at least a dozen cider manufacturers and more cider bars "sidrerias" or "chigres" than that, which are particularly atmospheric in mid October when the "Fiesta de la Manzana" (Cider festival) is held.

Villaviciosa has most facilities including a Wednesday morning market and the engaging city and port of Gijon, reached in less than half an hour, has everything.

The beautiful, golden sandy beach of Playa Rodiles is just six kilometres from Onon, reached through gentle rolling countryside with the village of Selorio with two grocer's shops (one with a butcher's section) and a couple of bars and restaurants on the way. Just beyond this is the fluvial beach, Playa Miseigu, on the estuary, with stunning views of the Ria.
