Cigüenza | Ref: CIG1 | Bedrooms: 4 | Sleeps: 8

Fabulous country house set in a lush valley famous for its lemon trees

Situated in the small village of Cigüenza, in a quiet rural location, the house is just a short drive away from the beaches and medieval Santillana del Mar & Modernista Comillas.

The large central staircase is just one of the impressive features of this roomy holiday home where everything is taken care of down to the last detail. A lovely country kitchen with all the modern appliances, a cosy and very spacious living room with a fine variety of sofas and armchairs to relax in, a huge garden for the kids to play in, and a covered terrace for eating and chilling out after a busy sightseeing day.

Upstairs there are four large ensuite bedrooms to choose from, all decorated in the same tasteful style as the rest of the house, with a fine blend of elegant antiques that enhance the inherent character of the property.

A large garden surrounded by stone walls offers plenty of rest areas and magnificent views of the village and its monumental St. Martin Church. The only noise here is the gentle flow of the nearby river and the occasional sounds of dogs barking and bells tolling.

Ideal for those who are looking for a private and quiet retreat, but want to be within easy reach of some of Cantabria's most popular attractions such as the fishing villages of Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, the famous Altamira Caves and the fantastic beaches of Oyambre Natural Park.

Cigüenza is a small village with a fine barroque church, set right on Northern Way of the famous pilgrim route to Santiago. The Camino, as it is now known worldwide, has become more and more popular in the last decades, and during a stay here you might well understand why. With a lush vegetation dominated by hundres of lemon trees and the rural charm of the surrounding countryside, Cigüenza is truly a pleasant surprise.

A short walk away is Novales, a very pretty farming village set in a lovely wooded valley, with a stream running through. It has a network of attractive little lanes and some wonderful traditional architecture.

It is a cheerful, friendly place with a shop, bars, good family restaurants, bank, pharmacy and doctor's surgery. There is also a small market on Tuesday mornings.
