Casita de Rikke, Cantabria and Asturias

Comillas | Ref: COM8 | Bedrooms: 2 | Sleeps: 4

Totally reformed in 2017 this little cottage, one of a row of five in a small, old-fashioned neighbourhood right on the edge of Comillas, offers views across the fields to the Picos de Europa.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the town yet just a few minutes walk to the centre and all amenities, the house is also well placed for the wonderful beach of Oyambre - one of north Spain's finest.

The house itself is on two levels with a bedroom, bathroom and open plan sitting-room / kitchen / diner on the ground floor and a twin bedroom and multi-purpose atrium upstairs. Though small, the owners have made the most of the space and the house feels light, uncluttered and airy.

The garden has a tiled terrace for eating out and an area laid to lawn - and that wonderful view across the Nature Park of Oyambre to the Picos de Europa.

The stairs are open-plan and so may not be ideal for toddlers (please study the photo gallery and give us a call if you have any doubts).
The house has WiFi

The lovely old town of Comillas sits on the hills above a beautiful bay and a little harbour.

Although it is expanding, its fascinating mixture of old houses overlooked by the dignified buildings of the former theological seminary make Comillas a delight to wander through. The architect Gaudi’s folly El Capricho, now restored and open for visitors with tickets, is just one of the big old residences worth a look. There are lots of shops, restaurants, bars, banks, tourist office and a busy Friday market.

Comillas beach is long and sandy, very ‘seasidey’ with its esplanade, while the pretty walled harbour makes a good walk with splendid views along the coast, the comings and goings of the fishing boats an extra fascination.

Town and beach have a relaxed holiday feel about them – and fairly bustle in July and August.

An excellent family holiday in Northern Spain

We travelled to Spain on the overnight Brittany ferry arriving into Santander - with two young children and lots of entertainment on the ferry, that was an adventure in itself! .... The accommodation was perfect for our family of four, with a sweet upstairs bedroom for the children, and their own play area outside their room and then a cosy living area and separate double bedroom and family bathroom for us downstairs.....Our children also loved the few toys available in the property, and we were able to enjoy the burner each night which kept us cosy and warm on the greyer days. We sadly left Comillas after just a few days (we would have stayed longer) but moved on to Bilbao for the sights of the Guggenheim and much more besides before our return ferry home to England.
