Las Camelias, Galicia

San Cosme de Barreiros | Ref: GSCB1 | Bedrooms: 3 | Sleeps: 6

Beautifully converted farmstead in extensive grounds near Playa Catedrales.

Las Camelias, a beautifully converted and restored traditional farmstead, takes its name from the many camelia trees planted in the extensive and well tended grounds which surround it. Backed by woods, the wide and open view across fields down to the coast of the Costa Lucense, is wonderful.

Maintaining many of its original features, but allowing for all modern comforts, the owners, with a clever eye for interior design, have created a very special country home.

Very well equipped, comfortable and spacious, furnished with antiques and interesting ornaments and paintings, they have ensured that each room, most with lovely sea views, has its individual character. The living room alone with its high beamed ceiling is a delight to be in, a perfect place to relax and unwind.

In the upper part of San Cosme de Barreiros with most facilities, the nearest beach is at three kilometres, and many more, including the well known Playa de las Catedrales, a little further. The local area is great for beach lovers with a superb choice from tiny coves to long stretches of fine white sand.

It makes an excellent base for exploring both the coast and interior of this part of Galicia, from the fascinating old whaling port of Rinlo, to dramatically placed Ribadeo, to Mondonedo with its cathedral and lovely Lugo with its impressive Roman walls.

San Cosme de Barreiros

San Cosme de Barreiros is one of several villages that line the coastal road between Ribadeo and Foz on the Costa Lucense in northern Galicia. It spreads out towards the hills and down to the rugged coastline where there are no end of beaches (including the famously spectacular Playa Las Catedrales), from tiny coves to long stretches of fine white sand.

The coast has seen some mild development, but the coastal walk from San Cosme to Ribadeo, is exhilaratingly beautiful.

San Cosme has two good supermarkets, a baker's, two banks, a fishmongers, a chemist's and a clinic, a newsagent's and several bars and restaurants.

For more facilities, the towns of Foz and Ribadeo, provide everything that you need.

Being conveniently placed near to the motorway, visits to the historic cities of Viveiro, Lugo, Santiago de Compostela, A Coruna and O Ferrol are easy and you can easily dip into western Asturias.
