Samieira
Although you are in one of Galicia's most popular areas for tourism - the picture-postcard fishing village of Combarro with its famous horreos to one side and the rather swanky marina of Sanxenxo to the other - you certainly are in a different, more tranquil world here. And yet the historic provincial capital of Pontevedra is just 20 minutes’ drive away!
The village beach is a 15 minute walk and you can follow the fascinating route of the 23 watermills "muinos" of Samieira. There is horse-riding just down the lane, a golf course a short drive away and of course you’ll find all manner of water sports on offer in the Ria.
Albariño, arguably Spain’s finest white wine, is produced locally which, combined with the wonderful local seafood you can see being harvested in the Ria, makes this one of Spain’s leading destinations for foodies in-the-know. You’ll find numerous restaurants to suit all budgets, but do look out for the very special "furanchos", private homes which open up as restaurants at certain times of the year, serving their own wines straight from the vineyard – heaven!
