San Vicente Del Monte
San Vicente del Monte
San Vicente del Monte itself sits like a cap on top of its steep hill looking down on the valley farms, the mountains ranged behind. A lovely old village, with two bar/shops, it’s a rural community still living and working within the traditions of many years, with animals still very much part of village life.
The little hamlet of La Herreria, 4km away at the bottom of the valley, has a bar/restaurant with good home cooking and Treceño, a little further on, has several restaurants and bars as well as a small supermarket, pharmacy and other shops.
It is a very peaceful part of the world; farmers and their animals, the bread van and the occasional mobile shop are all the traffic you’ll see.
- Walking in and around the village. You can walk up to the mountain ridge and there are signposts to " La Ruta de Los Camberos" (Roman walkway, partly excavated) and beyond.
- 18 hole golf course at Santa Marina, La Revilla -18km. near San Vicente de La Barquera. Also golf course on Oyambre beach.
- Tennis courts and indoor swimming pool at Cabezón de la Sal 10 km.
- Fantastic beaches of Comillas and Oyambre, 20 minute drive.
- Picos de Europa - an hour's drive.
- Comillas, Santillana del Mar and the replica of the Altamira caves, San Vicente de la Barquera all within an easy drive.
- The lovely town of Cabezón de la Sal at 10km with a great Saturday morning market.
- Treceño with four restaurants a five minute drive down the hill.
- Visit the fantastic caves at El Soplao.
- Valle de Cabuerniga, a nature reserve with some wonderful domestic architecture within very easy reach.
