La Griega | Ref: COL6 | Bedrooms: 2 | Sleeps: 4

Stylishly restored historic cottage. Walk to lovely beach and small town.

This special, charming, traditional, sixteenth century, detached, stone, south facing cottage with a large enclosed garden at the side, is certainly a house with a history! It was at one time the original "palace" in the village and was then lived in by the caretakers of the magnificent "palace" across the way.

Recently and very carefully restored, maintaining many of its original features including some tiny medieval like windows, it stands in the very pretty and peaceful hamlet of La Griega with wonderful views of the Sierra del Sueve and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Tastefully furnished and decorated in keeping with the style of the house, it is a great place just to relax and unwind and soak in the atmosphere.

It is in a unique position with the fantastic beach, Playa "La Griega", reached down a country lane and the interesting old town of Colunga both just a fifteen minute walk away. Just a little further afield is the fascinating old town and port of Lastres on the "Dinosaur" coast where you can feast on fishy delights!

A perfect spot for those wanting to combine a traditional seaside holiday with the gentle pace of country life.

NB In summer school holidays owner prefers two-week bookings starting either on the 1st or 15th of the month. Please ask for details)

La Griega

A pretty, peaceful, farming hamlet, set in unspoilt countryside with great views of the Sierra de Sueve, just one kilometre from the lovely beach Playa La Griega on the "Dinosaur" coast (reached from the village by a lane) and from the interesting old town of Colunga. Though small, it boasts a fine "palacio" and a sizeable church where the annual fiesta is held at the beginning of October.

Though there are no facilities here, bread vans come daily and Colunga should have all that you need, including a weekly market on Thursdays.

It is ideally situated for visiting the fascinating port and town of Lastres, the cider town of Villaviciosa, the elegant resort of Ribadesella and not far away are the cities of Oviedo and Gijón, both great for shopping and for culture.

Local Activities

1. Beach Playa La Griega – Only 900 m. away - this is a fantastic beach, accessible on foot down a lovely lane. Other great beaches at Lastres or La Isla, are a short drive away.
2.Wander round the delightful town and port at Lastres and the elegant resort of Ribadesella.
3. Visit Oviedo and Gijon — two very interesting cities, very different to each other. The stately architecture of Oviedo contrasts with the port spirit of Gijón.
4. Picos de Europa National Park — 45 minutes drive from the house, this is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Europe.
5. Walking — Sierra del Sueve and Sierra del Fitu, with fabulous views of the coast and the Picos de Europa.
6. Visit the Museo Jurasico, literally just down the road.
7. Impressive “bufones” in Pría, near Llanes — observe at first-hand the strength of the sea: the waves shoot up from underground caves and come out through holes made thousands of years ago.
8. Enjoy the local gastronomy, especially the delicious fish and seafood at the nearby port of Lastres.
9.Visit the impressive caves of Tito Bustillo near Ribadesella.
10. Go canoeing on the nearby Rio Sella.

"Beautifully renovated Asturian house in an excellent location for fabulous beaches and walks in the mountains.
We had a very peaceful and relaxing time and found the local people very friendly though my Spanish wasn't quite up to good conversation!"
(Client 2016)

"Relaxing holiday. Beautiful setting.
We had a great week in Asturias. The Casa that we stayed in was a really old village house, beautifully restored and well equipped.
The village, Colunga, had everything that one needed and was within walking distance of the Casa. The beach, also walking distance was lovely.
Asturias is known as Green Spain/Costa Verde and it wouldn't be so without some rain which we had a day of but also lovely sunshine though not TOO hot which suited us.
There are beautiful villages, beaches and mountains all within easy reach and plenty of history in the area - cave paintings, dinosaur footprints and old towns.
Overall, something for everyone" (Client 2016)

"The holiday was a revelation. We shall certainly return to Asturias and with your company", (Client 2014)
