Casa Chan, Galicia

Barcela | Ref: GPON3 | Bedrooms: 4 | Sleeps: 8

Delightful house and garden with pool, river walks, historic towns and spas nearby.

This large old stone detached house, set in its own enclosed grounds (2000 square metres) with a swimming pool, in the hamlet of Barcela with other houses around, has very recently been restored and renovated to maintain its original charm combined with modern elegance.

Beautifully, thoughtfully and artistically designed, furnished and decorated by its owners, with great attention paid to detail, the use of stone, wood, glass and iron blended with many pieces of antique furniture make this a very special house indeed.

In addition to the main house which comprises three bedrooms, the living room and the kitchen, there is a separate outbuilding where there is a fourth double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.

Spacious and light, the large windows give onto the delightful garden with fruit trees and huge centenarian camelias, and to vineyards and gently rolling hills beyond. A truly peaceful, country spot, just a few kilometres away from the imposing River Minho which makes a natural border between Spain and Portugal in southern Galicia.

Please note: the pool is not enclosed and the internal design may not be ideal for toddlers (please study the photo gallery and give us a call if you have any doubts).

Accommodation Description

Beautiful Ribadavia, a short drive from Barcela

Barcela

Spas abound in this corner of Galicia - there is even a Japanese style one with a sushi bar attached! For swimming and other water sports there are nice river beaches and lakes locally, yet the beautiful Atlantic facing beaches near Vigo and Baiona are only 40 minutesĺ drive away. Keen walkers won't be disappointed either with the lovely national park of Peneda - Geres in Portugal at thirty five kilometres.

Interesting little towns straddle either side of the Portugese border including lovely Ribadavia with its fascinating Jewish quarter where the ancient bakery still makes cakes and pastries to original recipes.

The tiny village of Barcela with a bar and a restaurant is a ten minute walk from Casa Chan.

Your local town, Arbo, has a pleasant feel and has its fair share of shops, bars and restaurants and of course you are in real wine country too, local producer As Laxas in Arbo is a favourite to get you started, so all in all you couldn't be better placed!
