La Quintana, Cantabria and Asturias

La Riera | Ref: COL2 | Bedrooms: 2 | Sleeps: 4

Attractively restored traditional house in a peaceful village near the Dinosaur coast.

A traditional Asturian terraced house in a row of three, set in the pretty "barrio" of La Viña, part of the farming village of La Riera, with fields, fruit trees and vegetable patches around and a small river with trout and eels nearby.

The owner has lovingly and beautifully restored this house, maintaining many of its original features to make a very comfortable home from home with great attention to detail. Accommodation is on the ground and first floor, (upper floor empty at present). There is sitting out space at the front and to the side where there is a nicely kept grass field for visitors' use (mostly enclosed, shared with the owners).

Although just four kilometers to the beach and two kilometres to the interesting old town of Colunga, you are in a very peaceful spot here, ideal for keen walkers who will get the best in local advice from the owners, themselves enthusiastic walkers.

Ideal for those who enjoy country life and a traditional seaside holiday – there are plenty of lovely beaches and fishing villages nearby and the mountains rise up just inland. And there's prehistory in plenty, as you are just by the Dinosaur Coast.

La Riera

A sleepy farming village divided into several "barrios", situated in the pretty countryside with fruit trees and vegetable gardens and cows grazing, just two kilometres from the interesting old town of Colunga, four kilometres to the beach, Playa La Griega, and the Dinosaur Coast, and six kilometres to the lovely old unspoilt fishing port of Lastres.

It is ideally situated for visiting the cider town of Villaviciosa, the elegant resort of Ribadesella and not far away are the cities of Oviedo and Gijón, both great for shopping and for culture.

There is no shop or bar, but mobile vans come to the village and Colunga should have all that you need.

Local Activities

  • Fantastic beaches - Playa La Griega, Playa la Isla...
  • Watersports - sailing, diving, surfing, fishing.
  • River fishing (with a licence).
  • Coastal walks. Beaches with fossilised footprints all along this coast.
  • Dinosaur museum on way to Lastres.
  • Feast on fish and seafood at the lovely old fishing port of Lastres.
  • Cider houses in the local Asturian style.
  • Visit the Picos de Europa
  • Go up to El Mirador del Fitu for the most spectacular views of the coast.

Reviews of this property

"Our hosts Marisol and Saturnino were very welcoming and generous. They made our stay relaxing and a true taste of life in rural Spain." (client 2017)

"Just a short message to let you know how much we enjoyed La Quintana. Our hosts were very sweet (and patient with my terrible Spanish) and bent over backwards to make our stay memorable. The house was in a perfect location - quiet yet 10 mins from town, beach and motorway and with space for the kids to run around in the "area recreativa". Our hosts were really generous with food from their small-holding - the most delicious runner beans and lots of other produce which was in season. I'd recommend this property for a family, perhaps not with children under 4 given steep steps, looking for something near the beach - there was lots to do in the area. The local beach (playa la Griega) was immaculate, lovely sand, well patrolled and super for the kids to jump in the waves and try out body-boarding.
Asturias was a brilliant place for a holiday and we're already recommending it to all sorts of friends and colleagues", (Client 2016)

"This was probably the nicest house we have stayed in with Casas Cantabricas. Amazing location very close to beaches and services but quiet and rural. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The decor and quality of the house was the most surprising thing and we were very impressed by the quality of the finish", (Client 2015)
