Jaurrieta, Spanish Pyrenees and Catalunya

The beautifully preserved and typically Navarran mountain village of Jaurrieta is the perfect base for those wishing to explore the Navarran Pyrenees.

Within easy reach are the beautiful Valle de Roncal and Roncesvalles. This is a  region steeped in history owing to its strategic place on the Camino de Santiago and importance as a main mountain pass to France.

Also nearby is the Forest of Irati, one of Europe’s largest unexploited forests and several peaks of 2000m+ with walking to suit all abilities.

The town itself has all the basics including 2 bar /restaurants, a bakery and a butcher, whilst a full range of amenities can be found in the nearby tourist centre of Ochagavia (7km) or Ezcaroz (5Km).

In Ochagavia you will also find a good tourist information office and should be able to organise whatever mountain activity you could wish for. There are swimming pools here and in summer there are several places near Jaurrieta where river swimming can be enjoyed, most notably Izalzu and Zatoia.

Pamplona is an easy excursion being just an hour away through some breathtaking mountain roads, and no-one should leave without seeing the gorges of Lumbiers and Arbayun with their resident vulture colonies just a short drive to the South.
