A very special, family run hotel, with an excellent adjoining restaurant, right in the heart of the medieval quarter of Le??n, just a short walk away from the Cathedral and its stunning stained glass windows and other impressive sights.

Built in 1370, (the restaurant incorporates part of the even older, Roman, city wall), the present owners, Marcos and his wife Ana Maria (the chef), lovingly restored the hotel in 1998. It still has the original staircase and beams in the attic bedrooms, but modern comforts are not forgotten and special detail is paid to all the extas from bathrobes to embroidered towels. It has a warm, homely and rustic feel, furnished in the Le??nese style.

The owners and the staff are exceptionally friendly and will make you feel at home at once showing great pride in what they have to offer. They have recently opened an annexe to the hotel in a carefully restored 19th century building in the street round the corner where the rooms are as inviting as in the main building.

León, a historic and lively town, can be busy at night so there is some noise in the main building, but it is remarkably quiet in the annexe. Breakfast is served in the restaurant dining room and also at times in the breakfast room of the annexe.

León, Madrid and Inland Spain

The monumental city of León on the Pilgrims´route to Santiago, had twenty four kings before Castilla even had laws!

Apart from its amazing Gothic cathedral with its stunning stained glass windows which jump out at you with their special light, equal to those of Chartres, it boasts many other impressive monuments such as the romanesque Basilica de San Isidoro or La Casa de Los Botines designed by Gaudi in the 19th century.

  • Apart from monuments León has a surprising lot to offer – excellent traditional gastronomy and wines, a very good choice of shops and a lively atmosphere especially at weekends.Crossing point of the Camino de Santiago and Via de Plata.
  • Cathedral of Santa Maria – beautiful stained glass Rose Window.
  • Hostal de San Marcos, whose history goes back to the 12th century and which at one time was used as a hospital for pilgrims, is now a hotel.
  • Palacio de los Guzmanes, built in the 16th century.
  • Tapas in la Zona Humeda, ‘the wet zone’, in the old-town.
  • See the 'true' Holy Grail housed in the beautiful Colegiata de San Isidoro.
  • Take a trip to lovely Astorga with its Gaudi palace.
