La Casa Vieja, Cantabria and Asturias

Trevias | Ref: VAL4 | Bedrooms: 3 | Sleeps: 5

House of character in a lovely garden, ideal for country-cum coast.

Set in a pretty garden with orange trees, in the hills just outside the village of Trevias (with good amenities), stands this old (300 years) stone detached house; it looks over to the village and up to the hills. It is a house of character, homely and relaxing, and is painted white throughout with tiled or wood floors and furnished with some interesting antiques, paintings and photographs. It is built on a slope, so both floors open to the garden.

There is a covered terrace, and in the garden are an horreo, wood store and old kitchen complete with stone bread oven (still in working order for those who want to try their hand at baking, or roast meat or vegetables) and modern cooker plus barbecue.

The house is down a drive off the little road that leads up the hill to the village of San Feliz and is a lovely spot for a country-cum-seaside holiday as the Asturian coast with its range of beautiful beaches is within easy reach.

NB - Owner prefers two week bookings in school summer holidays

Trevias

Trevias, in the municipality of Valdes "Cowboy country", southeast of the fishing port of Luarca (17 kilometres) in Western Asturias, is a workaday village with a supermarket, a good baker's, a doctor's surgery, pharmacy, an ironmonger's and other shops, and a restaurant and bars and a children's playground.

With the trout and salmon fishing Rio Esva running through, it is a short drive (7 kilometres) to the lovely beaches of Playa de Cueva and Playa de Cadavedo.

Just inland is the wonderful old village of Paredes (given a prize for being the best kept village in Asturias) on one of the signposted walking routes of "Las Hoces del Esva". The traditional bar/restaurants here serve tasty, traditional Asturian dishes.
