Up in the mountains of the Picos de Europa, this attractive posada is built in traditional style and materials to combine rural charm with modern comforts. Situated in Barrio La Gloria, Pesaguero, a little village twelve kilometres from Potes, in the beautiful Liébana countryside, with views to the high peaks, it is well located for exploring the Picos Mountains, with walks straight from the door or further afield.

The posada is centrally heated, has a bar and restaurant, open to the public. There is a pool, an open grass garden, and ample parking.

Pesaguero, North Spain

Just before you leave the valley of Liebana (with Potes at it's centre) through the mountain pass of Piedras Luengas at 1329m lies the small mountain village of Pesaguero.

Enjoying fantastic views towards the Picos de Europa and, less well known but no less spectacular, Peña Sagra, this is an excellent base for walkers, nature lovers or those who wish to explore in their cars. Though most will come here to investigate Liebena and the Picos de Europa one can easily reach Palencia and the little known inland side of the Picos.

The hotel El Hoyal is the main focal point here with its popular restaurant though there are several small shops, bars and restaurants within a short drive on the way down to Potes.

  • As in the rest of the valley of Liebana, Pesaguero enjoys a micro-climate which is noticeably drier than the local norm making it a very pleasant (if not necessarily hot) destination all year round.
  • Walking, bird watching, nature. There is a permanent exhibition of the flora and fauna of the area at La Casa de la Naturaleza in the village. They also organise guided and self guided walks.
  • Walk the Ruta de Cares from Posada de Valdeon.
  • Horse-riding in nearby Vinon.
  • Fishing in the River Deva (but with a licence).
  • Swimming in the river below the village.
  • Many outdoor activity companies in Potes.
  • Explore the interesting old town of Potes.
  • Visit the fascinating churches in Piasca and Santa Maria de Lebana and the monastery of Santo Toribio.
  • Take the cable car up to the heights at Fuente De.
  • Sample the gastronomy of the region at many family run restaurants – cocido lebaniego, the local dish, not to be missed!
  • Take a day trip by the San Glorio pass to the city of Leon with its amazing cathedral.
  • Take the scenic route to Aguilar de Campoo on the Palencia road.
  • Drive via Piedrasluengas to Polaciones and Tudanca and visit the museum of Jose Maria de Cossio, a famous writer.
