Ribera del Duero

In the far south of the Burgos Province lies the northern part of the Ribera del Duero wine region which spreads from here into three other provinces Valladolid, Segovia and Soria. The Ribera region covers the upper stretches of the Rio Duero which must surely be one of Europe’s most important wine rivers, flowing on through the Toro and Rueda regions and eventually into the Douro and Porto regions of Portugal. The most famous wine of the region is Vega Sicilia, considered to be the best red in Spain and certainly one of the most expensive though these days the Pesquera bodega managed by Alejandro Fernandez has led a radical modernization of the region’s wines and produces wines which though not cheap are more accessible and therefore becoming better known.
