Burgos, once the capital of the Kingdom of Castile and an important centre for the commerce between the Bay of Biscay and the interior of Spain is one of the main stops on the Camino de Santiago. Its magnificent gothic cathedral dates from the thirteenth century and has undergone a restoration followed by its being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Around about the cathedral Burgos is a lively, bustling city with busy bars serving lovely tapas and there are plenty of other historic sights to see as well as lovely parks and wide avenues.
