Due to the plancton rich currents which brush the Galician coast and the protected environment provided by the 'rias' the area has become famous for its world class shellfish. The finest clams, mussels, cockles and many more varieties are farmed here from rafts which look like a naval invasion! As well as the farmed shellfish there are the 'percebes' harvested from the most exposed, wave battered rocks by intrepid 'hunters' (hence the high price) and, perhaps most Gallego of all, the octopus - don't leave without trying th Pulpo a la Gallega
