A small family run hotel where you will receive a very warm and attentive welcome from the owners, Javier and Mercedes.

The rooms, though not large, are comfortable with a cosy feeling as is the rest of the hotel with a nicely decorated restaurant specialising in food from El Bierzo, part of the Le??n region of Spain, famous for its local produce and excellent wines and liqueurs.

There is a good sized heated swimming pool at the rear in the well kept gardens – a great place to chill out and relax.

Posada Prada a Tope is set back off the main road in the village of Trece?o in Cantabria, about 40 kms west of Santander, very well located for a holiday of exploration with Comillas and Santillana del Mar within easy reach.

There are great beaches within easy reach (15 min drive) and walking in the hills locally, while the Picos mountains are about an hour away.

It is also well placed for a final night for those en route to a ferry from Santander.

They have an excellent wine list too with some delicious wines from El Bierzo, which well live up to most Riojas.

Treceño, North Spain

Treceño, with the river Escudo running through, is a sizeable village, made up of eight "barrios". It's on the N634 which used to be the main coastal road before the motorway; it has several good restaurants (including, for a special treat, Palacio Guevara) as well as a supermarket, chemist’s, “ferretería” (hardware store, good for pottery etc.) a bank, a petrol station and a hairdressers.

Although a "functional" village, it is worth wandering round its little barrios as there are some fine examples of civil and domestic and religious architecture with an 18th century church and the 13th century chapel of "El Amparucu".

Only 10 minutes' drive will take you to the beautiful beaches at Oyambre or the traditional market town of Cabezón de la Sal. The lovely seaside town of Comillas is just a quarter of an hour away.

For those wishing to not rely too heavily on the car the village has a FEVE railway station linking it to Santander, Oviedo and several of the more important coastal and mountain towns along the way – be careful though, there are only two trains each way every day.Walking directly from the house into the nearby hills.

  • Tennis courts and indoor pool at Cabezón de la Sal.
  • Fishing in Rio Escudo.
  • Fantastic beaches of Comillas and Oyambre – 10 min drive.
  • Picos de Europa – an hour's drive.
  • Comillas, Santillana del Mar, Cuevas de Altamira, San Vicente de la Barquera all within an easy drive.
  • The lovely town of Cabezón de la Sal at 10km with a great Saturday morning market.
  • Local gastronomy – Treceno has four restaurants.
  • The caves of Soplao – half an hour's drive.
  • Valle de Cabuerniga, a nature reserve with some wonderful domestic architecture within very easy reach.
