The tradition of human tower building is deep rooted in Catalan culture and nowhere more so than in Vilafranca del Penedés where they have one of the province’s foremost groups. The practice goes back to to the 18th century and although at first glance is just a physical challenge, and a highly technical and even dangerous one at that, its practitioners give equal or greater importance to the social aspect of the activity involving as it does people of all ages and encouraging teamwork at the highest level. With towers of 8, 9 or even 10 levels it’s a spectacle not to be missed!
